What is Spiritual Direction?

Let’s start with what spiritual direction is NOT. It’s different from therapy or counseling but has some of the same deep listening those settings involve. Spiritual direction is trusted, confidential guidance where I accompany you as we explore your relationship with the divine, something larger than yourself, or work to grow your awareness of your own spirituality. This kind of partnership setting is where spiritual transformation can be most fruitful - when you have someone to listen, care and reflect back what movement or patterns are emerging.

Who is this for?

Spiritual direction (or accompaniment) is for anyone and everyone with big questions looking to explore and reflect more deeply on their spiritual path, wanting to grow in awareness of the presence and action of the divine, deconstructing or reconstructing their faith/beliefs, seeking discernment through a life transition or change, or simply needing a structured conversation partner to talk through and explore their spiritual lives with a trained Spiritual Director.

What kinds of questions might you explore? In my own spiritual direction journey, I’ve explored things like:

  • What am I called to do with my life? What is my purpose?

  • Where do I belong? Who am I meant to serve?

  • What do I believe? How can I feel closer to the divine?

  • Where can I find God/Spirit leading me? How will I know?

Oftentimes people only pursue these questions in moments of crisis - but more and more, people seek guidance for something greater, to tap into the flow of the universe, and spiritual direction is a wonderful place to begin.

My Approach

My approach is centered on the belief that we are all beloved children of God. This love extends beyond however we may define God (higher being/universal energy/Ultimate Reality). We are beloved and made to be whole and free. I identify as a witchy, mystical, subversive Christian, but am also a student of other spiritual traditions like Buddhism and traditional African religions. My spiritual practices include meditation, contemplative prayer, tarot reading, writing, breath work, dancing and yoga. I believe the Divine and wisdom are found in all faith traditions. I trained in spiritual direction and accompaniment with Still Harbor, which trains spiritual leaders who seek to accompany those working for collective liberation.
